Medicaid Undercount Web Conference a Success!

Medicaid Undercount Web Conference
November 15, 2005
SHADAC is hosting a Medicaid Undercount Web Conference on Tuesday, December 6, from 3:00 to 4:30 pm (EST).  This conference will provide participants with background information on the Medicaid undercount, what we know about potential sources of discrepancy between survey and administrative data, and will feature past, ongoing and future research exploring the factors contributing to the undercount and what to do about it.

This conference is free and open to the public.  However, registration is required.   To register for the conference, please e-mail or call Karen Soderberg at soder145@umn.edu, (612-624-4802) put “Medicaid undercount web conference” in the subject line and include your name, e-mail, and phone number in the body.

SHADAC Funding Renewed

SHADAC is pleased to announce that The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has renewed funding for three years to conduct research and provide technical assistance on state and federal health survey data.

SHADAC Hosts CPS Call
August 31, 2005
SHADAC hosted a conference call with Chuck Nelson of the Census Bureau from 1:00 to 2:30 PM EDT. Chuck discussed the major findings and addressed technical data related questions from participants.

CPS Health Insurance Estimates Released
August 30, 2005
The Census Bureau has released the annual CPS estimates of health insurance coverage today. The report and press release are available from the  Census Bureau.

"Going Without:  America's Uninsured Children" released for Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School Campaign

SHADAC researchers recently completed a study of health insurance coverage, health status, and access to health care services among U.S. children as part of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School Campaign. The study used data from the 2003 State and Local Area Integrated Telephone Survey (SLAITS).  Download the report, "Going Without:  America's Uninsured Children."

Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School Campaign Launced
August 2, 2005
The sixth annual Covering Kids & Families Back-to-School campaign was launched today to help inform parents nationwide that their children may be eligible for Medicaid or the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) coverage and to help get more children enrolled. Census Bureau Small Area Estimates Released
July 21, 2005
The U.S. Census Bureau released the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) model-based estimates for counties and states. The experimental estimates were developed for total population with and without health insurance coverage, and children under age 18 with and without health insurance coverage. Data, maps and methodology are available from the Census Bureau.

Cover the Uninsured Week Launched
April 27, 2005
Today  marks the launch of the national campaign for the 2005 Cover the Uninsured Week. This nonpartisan effort is the largest mobilization in history to promote health coverage for all Americans. SHADAC was commissioned by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to develop a comprehensive state-by-state analysis of Americans without health care coverage, titled "Characteristics of the Uninsured: A View from the States 2005". Additional methodology documentation includes:  a summary of why BRFSS data was chosen for the 2005 CTUW analysis, and for a summary on the variation in health insurance coverage measurement between BRFSS and CPS.

Davern Presents to American Enterprise Institute
April 8, 2005
Dr. Michael Davern spoke at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. today at a conference entitled, "9 Million Fewer Uninsured?"

Tobacco Survey Results Released
March 2005
The Minnesota Partnership for Action Against Tobacco (MPAAT) has released results from the Minnesota Adult Tobacco Survey in the booklet “Secondhand Smoke in Minnesota, 1999-2003.”  SHADAC researchers collaborated on this project.

Dr. Kathleen Call, April Todd-Malmlov and Jeannette Ziegenfuss released Research Brief on Health Insurance Coverage in Minnesota from 2001 to 2004.
March 2005
The 2004 Minnesota Health Access (MNHA) survey shows the rate of uninsurance rose from 5.4% in 2001 to 6.7% in 2004, marking the first significant increase since Minnesota first began conducting its own surveys of health insurance coverage.

Drs. Blewett and Call were quoted in Minneapolis Star Tribune article.
