Integrated Health Interview Series (IHIS) Data Released
June 28, 2007
Researchers at SHADAC and the Minnesota Population Center have announced the second major data release for the Integrated Health Interview Series (IHIS). This second IHIS data release was set to coincide with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the NHIS that took place at the National Center for Health Statistics on June 25. This release also includes the addition of NHIS-IHIS linking key, major innovation that will allow users to link other variables from the original NHIS public use files to IHIS data files. IHIS data are freely available for public use at www.ihis.us. Presentations describing the program and release are posted on SHADAC's presentation page.

U.S. Census Bureau Revises Uninsurance Estimates
March 23, 2007
The U.S. Census Bureau has revised the number of uninsured downward from 15.9 to 15.3 percent of the U.S. population in 2005. This revision occurred as the Census Bureau discovered an editing problem with the health insurance data that has been in place since the Current Population Survey converted to a computerized instrument in 1995. Some people who reported coverage were wrongly edited to not have coverage in the final data. This problem has been corrected. SHADAC will arrange a conference call to discuss this issue; notice for this will be posted in the next few weeks.

"Whose Kids are Covered?" report released for Cover the Uninsured Week
March 14, 2007
As debate about how much federal funding to devote to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), this new analysis provides a clearer look at uninsured children in every state. The analysis, released today by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, shows that since 1997, employer offers of health insurance to parents with lower incomes have fallen three times as fast as offers to parents who earn more money. The figures underscore that working parents who earn modest incomes are experiencing dramatic erosion in employee benefits. Analysis for this report was conducted by SHADAC.
