The State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC) is state-level health policy analysis and research center at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. SHADAC's affiliated faculty and staff conduct a variety of research and consultation projects for state and federal agencies. It was founded in 2000 with principal funding from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Analysis of Medicaid "Undercount" released

The U.S. Census Bureau has released reports for Phases 1 and 2 of the analysis of survey underestimation of Medicaid enrollment. SHADAC researcher Mike Davern lead this project. The Census Bureau has published a Web page dedicated to these reports and will be updated as the reports are released.

Minnesota Rates of Uninsurance Stabilize Following Earlier Increases

New results from the 2007 Minnesota Health Access Survey show 7.2 percent of Minnesotans were without health insurance. After rising between 2001 and 2004, the percentage of Minnesotans without health insurance was stable between 2004 and 2007, according to the results of a new survey by the Minnesota Department of Health and the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. SHADAC Investigator Kathleen Call oversaw this project.

New Crowd-out Issue Brief Released

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has released a new issue brief, "Crowd-out Revisited," as part of its Synthesis Project. This brief, authored by SHADAC researchers Lynn Blewett and Kathleen Call, updates a previous Research Synthesis on crowd-out, reviewing recent findings on the size of crowd-out, the effectiveness of anti-crowd-out measures and the trade-offs policy-makers face.

2006 CPS Shows Increase in Uninsurance Rates
August 28, 2007
The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2006 health insurance coverage estimates today. The percentage people in the U.S. without health insurance increased from 15.3% in 2005 to 15.8% in 2006, representing an increase of 2.2 million uninsured (from 44.8 million to 47.0 million). The percentage of children under 18 years old without health insurance increased to 11.7% in 2006, from 10.9% in 2005.

2006 CPS Health Insurance Data Release

The Census Bureau plans to release the annual CPS estimates of health insurance coverage at a press conference on Tuesday, August 28. SHADAC will host a conference call with Chuck Nelson of the Census Bureau to discuss the release on Wednesday, August 29, 1:00 to 2:00 PM EDT.

Kids Coverage Report Released
August 10, 2007
"A new report on children’s health insurance coverage has been released by Cover the Uninsured. The report, “Protecting America’s Future: A State-by-State Look at SCHIP & Uninsured Kids,” shows that 6.6 million children were covered by SCHIP at some point last year. The report was prepared for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation by researchers at SHADAC.
